Angels Walking is a fundraising concept where we walk and we raise money for a specific cause. Our cause is Breast Cancer. We encourage our walkers to walk in their wings, in pink, bring their babies in prams, with your guide dog or in a wheelchair, and you can even bring along the men in your life to walk!!
In October 2008 we launched our first Angels Walking for Breast Cancer, being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We had thousands of ladies and children walking in their wings, halo’s – all dressed in pink. We even had some divine intervention…..a halo appeared around the sun during the walk! The monies we raised was donated to Breast Cancer Fundraising to assist them in the purchasing of a Mobile Breast Check Unit which launched in July. Our donation this year is going to The Breast Health Foundation & Bosom Buddies who will use the much needed funds to employ more Community Educators who travel into Townships and rural areas to promote "
EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES".
A team of ladies from the Breast Health Foundation will have a stand on the day doing breast examinations, answering questions and talking to the ladies about Breast Cancer. Vertec (who supply mammograms units to many hospitals and clinics) will also be available to supply information on where to go etc for check ups. There is a possability that they may being doing some mammograms on the day.
A host of celebrities will be walking including the ladies from 'Scandal'.
Before and after the walk take time out in the “Healthy Living Village” (see details below).
We will also have a fashion show and an auction after the walk. Part of the auction will be "PampSSer Packages"!!! Details of auction will be posted shortly. We are hoping to get a little Pink Fiat and a Pink Scuta. We will also be auctioning 2 x packages for Angels Walking the Great Wall of China in April 2010.
Kyalami was selected for a second time as our venue for various reasons. One being the uniqueness of walking around a world class race track which is something one may never get the opportunity to do, its safe ancentrally located. Kyalami also allow guide dogs on the track. The distance is 4.2kms. The ladies who walked last year loved the venue so we stay.
